Well, I’ve officially gone AWOL….

As in getting back to making this whole being healthy thing into A Way Of Life. The holidays are coming and that scares the crap out of me. I’d rather be a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs than deal with all the Halloween candy, Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas cookies.

Whenever I get pissed or my healthy spirit gets renewed…I chart and list and count. It’s how I roll. There are about 87 days left in the year…just short of 13 full weeks. Perfect. For me, the end of the year is as exciting as the New Year is with all its resolutions. I get a kick out of listing goals for a new year but I also find renewed motivation in ending out this year with a bang.

If I got back into running starting YESTERDAY and I got under 1200 calories starting YESTERDAY and I could get back the mind of a health guru starting YESTERDAY…well then I’d be truly practicing AWOL. I’m happy to report all of that indeed happened yesterday…and it continues today.  I did 65 minutes on the treadmill, stayed way under 1200 calories and drank a ton of water.

So there you have it….87 days…13 weeks.

When I ran 5 miles a day I loved who I was and how I felt. And it feels good to get back on the track to get back there. It feels good to have a plan. To write the plan down and cross off days and be accountable. It feels good to give 100% knowing it’s what I’ve been capable of all along but I just stopped requiring it of myself.

This can be done.

Who is with me? Any of you guys making plans to end the year at your healthiest yet?

What can you do in 87 days?

Running every day is the best feeling! Awesome, you are off to a great start!

As for me, I hate lists. I hate plans. I think I need one though...the first piece of Halloween candy appeared in my house yesterday....Help!

Love my lists, and getting to cross things off as DONE.

I'm with you. Not going to gain through the holidays this year. Not me.

I too adore lists, I have a rather ambitious christmas craft list going right now.
I joined the Hot 100 challenge and have three goals for the rest of this year.
1. Get into size 14 jeans
2. Workout 3 hours each week, minimum
3. Post 1 new recipe each week.
So far so good, I've lost another pound, just 2 to go till onederland!!!
Also I have made myself another list of halloween candy, serving sizes and calories, I'm not going to refuse candy, I am going to plan candy, that way I won't have a sourpatch-hersheykiss-reecescup-jellybelly binge before the end of october.

I want to get to 100 pounds down by Christmas. I have 34 pounds to lose by then. I'm going to hit it hard in the gym and may even go back to liquid protein diet the first 2 weeks of November. I don't know why, but this goal is important to me. Please keep posting about the countdown to the end of the year. I need the kick in the a**.

I am such a type A, list everything, plan everything person so I am right there with you for planning for the end of the year. There are some goals I set for myself that dont always happen on time but at least it gives us something to work towards! Thanks for the goal reminder...we need to kick it in high gear for the next 13 weeks!!

You KNOW I'm with you! This is exactly what I meant when I said- I got to kick ass 4th quarter. It's the last stretch of the year- I went to finish out strong...not have to start out the new year re-losing weight I've already lost but couldn't keep off during the holidays. That's part of the reason I committed to the 300 miles by the end of the year thing. Even after the Ragnar is over- I'll have to keep running like crazy to make goal. But it's going to be so worth it!!!!!

XO- you know you're my absolute favorite of all...right? I had a dream last night that you called me and we were cavorting all over Tennessee (????). For some reason, it's where you lived and wanted to cavort. :)

XOXO- ILYG

I just have to tell you I completely giggled at the "about" 87 days left in the year. That's like saying I weigh "about" 206.2.

You go with your lists and spreadsheets - it's gotten you this far, and I know it'll take you right on home to goal. xoxo

Hey Sweetums! I'm hoping to lose 15 lbs in October....or by the end of the year, hehe! By the end of the yr is much more realistic but I need to get past this lil slump I've been sitting at. I'll have to whip out the lists too...they calm me as well.

I'm with you! I have an end of year goal weight that I have broken down into weekly goals. Hello, type A!!??

I wish I could run. That should be a new goal for me, to eventually get to where I can actually run. wouldn't it be nice? yup

That is absolutely amazing! I know their home "venture" will inspire millions! As for you, you hotass - 87 days until the end of the year...87 days of AWOL and 87 days for me to finish, edit and get my book published. AND 87 days for me to get back up and start working out in the mornings - of course, I'll start tomorrow...WE CAN DO IT....!!!!!

I am a list/planner also. I wish I didn't have this ankle thing going on because I feel like there is a runner inside me! I will have to stick to my spinning for the time being.

87 days left of 2010, huh. This has been the absolute worst year of my life and yet it has been the absolute best year. Go figure.

I'm with you all the way. I got banded yesterday so my list for the rest of the year is:
* follow my doctors orders and post-op meals plans to a T.
* exercise 30-60 minutes per day
* start seeing a shrink to deal with my food addiction
* lose 20-25 lbs.
It's great to have goals that I can shoot for.

There is a shit load I can do by the end of the year. In fact, I have challenged myself to do so. One of those things is to continue to lose weight and improve my health, in spite of it being "that time of the year".

That is great about your Parents' house! I wish I got DIY, that is a story I would love to see.

Going AWOL. I like it. I might have to add it to my motto. :D

I think women in general like lists....especially ones with items crossed off. Woo hoo...65 minutes on the Dreadmill...awesome stuff. This year you're going to be a manx, Draz...no fear. Keep it up.

Love the lists...most of mine are just in my head.
I'd love to get to my wedding day weight of 174 by the end of the year. I know that's not a huge goal but that's only 29 lbs away from my crazy low goal of 145 which I intend to hit before my 1-year bandiversary on April 26th.

The DIY network!! Well, that's something!

Go, Draz, go! A lot can be accomplished in 87 days.

You know I'm right there with you! I have about eight weeks left of deployment, so that was gonna be my time frame... but 87 days sounds so much better! :)

I wish you could come to my house and color code my fridge, teach me about the value of sorting laundry, meal plan and grocery shop with me, program my universal remote (ok, maybe Jenny would have to do that), organize my old photos....
